Too Much to Lose
When I became a grandfather, I had no idea what a grandparent was supposed to do. I was given a t-shirt that read: Grandpa’s To-Do List… 1) Fill ‘em up with sugar; 2) Send ‘em home. That is often the prevailing view of grandparenting. Grandparenting is fun, but there’s more to it than just good times. There might be times when it’s not so grand. Yet, both joy and pain can be opportunities to help our grandchildren understand what it means to know, love and serve Christ. That requires intentionality and some learning on our part.
That’s what our mission at CGN—to engage and equip grandparents to effectively influence their grandchildren for Christ. There’s too much to lose if we don’t. There’s also no greater joy than to see them walking in the truth.
That’s why I’m eager to share with you three key ministry projects we launched in 2016. This is a mission we cannot do alone. We need partners like you to accomplish it. So, here are three momentous projects we have launched for 2016 for which your help is needed to accomplish:
PROJECT #1: Ministry Partner Development and Training
For a number of years, our Courageous Grandparenting seminars, workshops, and GrandCamps have been provided by our Executive Director. It is time to recruit and train a team of presenters—Certified Ministry Partners—who will replicate and multiply these teaching opportunities through conferences, seminars and camps all over the US and Canada. We need your help to finance this training project.
Project Goal for 2016: $10,000
PROJECT #2: Grandparents In Action Series (GIA)
Courageous Grandparenting has been well received nationwide. Still, the demand for more resources that drill down on topics specific to where individual grandparents are continues. The GIA Series will focus on topics that are important to grandparents. For example: Long-distance grandparenting, grandparents raising grandchildren, adult children relationships, special-needs grandparenting. Written by a variety of authors who are qualified to speak to these issues, the books will be available individually or in sets.
Project Goal for 2016: $5000
PROJECT #3: DIY GrandCamp Guidebook
After almost two decades of producing our own GrandCamp programs, we have received numerous requests for a guide to help grandparents do their own version of a GrandCamp with their grandchildren. We have nearly completed the manuscript for this Do-It-Yourself GrandCamp Guidebook filled with practical ideas and tips. All that’s left to do is graphics design, editing, formatting, printing and distribution.
Project Goal: $15,000
May I count on you to make a one-time or recurring pledge to help us reach these project goals before the end of 2016? Will you become a Ministry Partner Champion by making a monthly gift of $50, $100, $250 or more towards our goal of $30,000 for the remainder of 2016? Any amount you can give will go to providing these tools to equip and encourage grandparents to teach the next generation what it means to know, love and serve Christ.
P.S.: Did I mention that 50% of all the proceeds from Projects #2 & #3 will be going to help low-income families attend a GrandCamp
